How do we know if organic food is really organic?
In Australia there are no rules and regulations for the protection of using the term ‘organic’. In supermarkets, and stores the shelves are filled with so many products labelled as organic. The only thing on which consumers can rely is the presence of authentic certification on the label. If the consumer finds the certification from a recognized certifier on the label, he does not need any other assurance then to buy it.
Organic food is something that is absolutely free from synthetic chemicals as well as from fertilizers. In case of certified products there is no use of synthetic chemicals, fertilisers, or GMOs in its growth and processing. The term organic also refers to the way the food is grown and handled beside giving you an idea that it is free from the results of positive chemical test.
Certified organic and biodynamic products are actually the result of beneficial method of land management in which the use of harmful ingredients is strictly prohibited i.e. the use of artificial fertilisers to regulate growth, use of pesticides and herbicides, use of antibiotics and also the use of hormone stimulants.
In Australia there are many approved certifiers and many are approved internationally as well. The Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) is responsible for annual accrediting auditing of the certifiers in Australia.
Whether the product is organic or not?
Never judge organic food by its label and look for the certifier symbol. The best thing is to find the list of symbols for knowing the standard of different organic food producers. If the organic product is imported from any country then the symbol of international certification would be different.
High standard organic food producers are always in demand because they stay away from use of any harmful means to produce organic food or biodynamic products.
